Mim Best is a Bristol based contemporary jewellery designer who graduated in 1998 with a degree in Applied Arts and shortly after began working for award-winning designer Diana Porter where she continued to grow, honing her skills over a 20 year period.
Mim’s delicately dazzling collections are made in silver and gold using traditional making techniques and creative ways to give unique surface textures. Much of her work is then embellished with coloured gemstones and intricate precious gems.
Her inspiration comes from pattern, print and surface textures; always seeking interesting details and beauty. Obsessed with her subject she is particularly fascinated by jewellery that is geographically and culturally out of reach, be it ethnic, tribal, ancient or antique jewellery from all over the world; captivated by the stories behind the pieces, the intricate details and the high level of craftsmanship involved.
Many of Mims’ pieces begin life either from a drawing or an experiment, or simply from finding a process that she enjoys. This debut collection demonstrates her meticulous attention to detail as well as a lifelong obsession with her craft, resulting in original, elegant and beautifully executed designs.
