“In this fragrance I wanted to explore the smell not of opals themselves (since they have none) but the smells one might discover where opals might be found. The image that came to my mind when researching opal mines was of vast underground cathedrals, so the perfume takes heavy inspiration from religious smells like frankincense and amber. The main accord of the perfume puts a collection of materials together which remind some people of pleasantly damp, cold stone, but glinting in the distance you can smell some contrast; veins of opal amongst the rock.  In addition, compared to lots of mines, opal mines tend not to be that far underground, so the botanical elements of the perfume nod to this -- I wanted to suggest that such mines are close enough to the surface even for you to be able to see/smell roots of various plants; iris, vetiver, etc. The ground is the ceiling.”
