Mette Jensen utilises wood - the signature material from her homeplace of Copenhagen. Demonstrating its beauty and flexibility she makes sculptural forms that bend to her whim.
"Treated with respect almost every material has something to give when it comes to jewellery. Respecting a material here means accepting its limits and developing it according to its characteristics, which involves getting to know what is natural for it to do and how it reacts towards different factors, like heat, water, air and pressure.
To get to know almost any material is an enjoyable challenge, a few things comes out as expected, which is not a bad thing as it opens new and often surprising possibilities involving new techniques or tools. In the end this gives a wider rage of choices than expected and results in more interesting designs."
Mette's resulting pieces are sculptural pieces that can be worn, but also have an existence on their own. Her aim is to design jewellery that make viewers wonder, smile, dream or see new possibilities. In this collection wood and silver are the main materials used and the inspiration comes from the wood and its characteristics as well as sculptures, furniture, ships and architecture.
