"Precious Metal Microcosm Curios"
Growing up in the countryside of the fishing village of Killybegs on the North West coast of Ireland, sea themes are evident throughout Eily’s work. Her eyes are always open as she forages along beaches and in forests. The organic materials she finds are then carefully sorted and studied for their appeal and intrinsic character to use in her work. She finds ways of capturing their essence in metal, manipulating and transforming them into macrocosm curios. There are constant references to human manipulation of nature as Eily is concerned with the ecological impact of mankind. She tries to highlight important issues through her collections sourcing sustainable materials including recycled metals and Fairtrade gemstones.
Her bark textured gold wedding and engagement rings are her response to being tired of seeing everyone wearing the same thing.
