Diving into the beautiful blue sea of Sophie Warringham's enamelled jewellery
When we met Sophie Warringham at "One Year On" as part of New Designers, we couldn't wait to exhibit a collection of her jewellery. The pumice-like textures and fluid blues are the perfect summer vision for our main window display you can see at the moment on Upper Street in Islington.
A graduate from the Glasgow School of Art, Sophie looks to the coast for textural inspiration to use in her work. Seascapes also influence her current palette of translucent shades of blue.
To capture the transient beauty seen in a glimpse of the water Sophie uses traditional techniques as well as her own experimental processes in enamel.
By hand carving before applying the many delicate layers of colour the results create intriguing jewellery pieces, each a fragment of a time and place at sea.
